What Next?

After the recent elections, the world seems to have gone crazy over the outcome of one of the tumultuous polls in our history. Overnight all those dagger-drawn at each other hitherto, have united against the majority party and those calling for public to decide the fate of political figures have suddenly tipped off about going to the courts. Well that's the landscape which we observe every five years.
What would happen now is to be seen through the prism of historical facts as well as the situation at hand. It was not very long ago that in 2013 elections PML-N came up as the majority party, proclaiming victory two hours after the polling had seized. Ultimately it came about that PML-N was not only the majority party in Centre but was also going to form govt in the province of Punjab. Kudos to the dupe people of the country who once again elected the ones who had a history of fooling them in the name of religion, ethnicity, brotherhood and sectarianism. But that was when PTI gained two advantages over all others. One: It was able to form a govt in KPK where the brave populace rejected all others and gave the party heralding change a chance to prove its mettle in the political arena. How they performed over the last five years is however a discussion left for some other time. Second: The only party, which shook up the masses by eventful sit-ins and protests marked with the populist notions of anti-rigging and anti-corruption drive, was indeed PTI. The same idea served as a catalyst for their recent victory against the political elite.
Now PTI has managed to take maximum seats but it is still far off the target of simple majority to make pragmatic changes in the legislation. The influx of many an independent candidate aided by other concurring parties is likely to give Imran Khan a chance to be the premier, but would he be able to make the changes he desired for so long in the short term of maximum five years? That would be told upon by time.
