Was Musharraf the real Target?

The verdict given by special court in high treason case against General (R) Pervez Musharraf has not been well received in the Army spheres. The blatant disregard for humanitarian and religious aspects aside, the very verdict defeats the spirit of upholding the law itself. But was Musharraf the real target of the verdict given in haste and claiming a resounding victory? That's the question which perpetuates the myth around clash of institutions in Pakistan.
If we examine the verdict it is obvious that Musharraf is portrayed as the only figure in Pakistan's history to have done something against the law, however under compelling circumstances. The sacred cows are being provided safe havens by the same courts which have handed a warrior death sentence for something he did in total agreement to the obtaining environment that prevailed. But that's not what the verdict seems to be aiming at. The target is the lynchpin of Pakistan's existance as a sovereign state and that is none other than the Army itself. By targeting a professional soldier who dared to lead the country amidst tumultuous times and gave it a new course when the world's narrative was changing altogether after 9/11, the Army as an organised institution has been targeted. Musharraf was infact the ray of hope that kindled a thousand ways for Pakistan. He defended Pakistan's interests like a warrior of great acumen and proved that Pakistan always came first, as is the title of his autobiography. So why target him in the wake of targeting the Army? Who are the benefactors to gain from this imbroglio? The answer is simple: to weaken Pakistan, weaken its Army and to weaken the Army, weaken its morale; the benefactors are the people who are up against the state of Pakiatan from within and without. That's why all these forces are at play to give some real goose-bumps to the men in Khaki. But little do they know that these men are never afraid of such peevish tactics.
(Translation: These warriors, victorious, These worshippers of Yours,
Whom You have granted the will to win power in Your name;
Who cleave rivers and woods in twain,
Whose terror turns mountains into dust.)
Indeed the rhetoric of upholding the law is overtly being used to malign the dignity of the state institutions and the most powerful of all is the Army. Previously the matter of Army Chief's extension was also personalised for the same reason. While the Indian Army is preparing for a misadventure, the timing of this verdict is surely a well-thoughtout drama to affect the morale of the Army. This was intended to give a loud and clear message to the battle-hardened Army that YOU ARE IN THE LINE OF FIRE.
Although the commotion this verdict has triggered is quite visible in civilian and military circles alike, but the very timing is a great concern. Indeed there is much to imagine but the obvious imagination says, Musharraf was not the target; it was the institution which was baited, probably just for fun.

  1. The verdict given by the judge is totally Baseless From my point of view the person who served his nation for 40 years and Fought deadly wars only for his nation is now facing these heart-rending decisions anyhow, if they want to do justice at any cost alright then Pervez Musharraf should be punished,but all the politicians associated with him should be punished before his conviction. Nobody is above the law than.
