The World Dead-ahead

The current situation on mother earth is unfathomably dispiriting. Despondency is spread all over due to Covid-19 pandemic as the world is locked down amidst an unkind wave of low morale. Not a corner of the world seems safe against the disasterous spread of the novel disease. People are woebegone while govts across the globe are awestruck. Nothing seems promising enough to hold back this trojan horse which is bent upon playing havoc with the weak human world.

If in these abysmal conditions one looks around, the story unfolds iteself. To count a few: heath care around the globe is detrimentally falling behind in pace; world's economic and financial statistics show a despondent picture; the casualties are rocketing high each day while several world leaders have been affected by the pandemic; and above all the opposite ends of the bipolar world of the past are coming closer as against all satirical propositions. The last point, though encouraging, leaves much to imagination since it bewilders us to think how the top-dogs on either sides have donned the attires of sympathy in the middle of this pandemic. Alas! Woe be to mankind for it is only adversity that brings them closer together.

The world we see today is already changing a big deal. But where are we headed? Do we have a tender hope to see the world that way again or we have to embrace a dystopic world as it is destined to be? Do we have the capability to contain the damage or it is an unstoppable downtrend to be accepted just as it is? Commotion prevails and nothing but disappointment has taken the centre-stage.
A very recent development which has cut the world to the quick is the American President's halting of funding World Health Organisation (WHO). While it came as a shock to the world at large, it also reflects the fear of most-talked-about economic recession. The offer of medical assistance package from USA's longtime rival Russia was not turned down by the American President recently which tells us how desperate the situation at hand is. Perhaps only Covid-19 has the wherewithal for challenging the super power in recent times. Either her unbridled rage is coming to a halt or that's how it seems. Let's wait and watch.

Another aspect to this debate of Covid-19 revolves around conspiracy theories being rolled out by economic rivals namely China and USA. Recently media in USA propagated about the spread of the virus from China while a tit-for-tat response came as a rejoinder from the hardliner Chinese beauracracy who declared the USA's allegations preposterous and instead blamed the former of having translocated the virus to China. The exciting part is people are believing China as US media watches in awe.

In short, what we see is a changing world order of sorts. No hegemon is likely to succeed in the coming days. Economic indicators suggest a dreary situation where the world economy may wear a grim look as we behold the pandemic growing serious up until this moment. It is appalling to see the world leadership in shambles except for the few true leaders who are not flustered in these testing times. Let's sincerely hope they hold their nerves as the world dead-ahead seems to wobble in the face of the current situation.
